Tour Description

This National Park covers an extension of 5.030 hectares of scenic beauty and unique geological characteristics within the country, which confers in great cultural and touristic attractions. Located in the aridest section of the Magellanic steppe. Most of the surface is covered by extensive basaltic lava spills, a favorable environment for semi-desertic vegetation. The existence of numerous low altitude volcanoes cones, natural caves, abundant craters, basaltic walls, and lava fields resemble a lunar landscape. Founded in 1970, the National Park Pali Aike is the only place in the country for its geological characteristics, exotic lunar landscapes and a singular mixture of grey tones in the volcanic debris that reminds the lava rivers in the cordilleran zone of the XII region.

Around 08:30 hrs. We, Will, pick up you in your residence place to begin the trip to the Nacional Park Pali Aike, located at 194 km of Punta Arenas. This trip will take us through the rout 9 rounding the Magellanic strait coast and touring the Magellanic steppe, which delights us with its autochthonous flora and fauna. Our first stop will be in san Gregorio, fascinating place that transports us to the past, we will find here the ex-estancia San Gregorio, first cattle farm in Patagonia, and the seashore repose the remains of the steamship Amadeo (Historical National Monument), which stranded in the strait coast.

We will continue the journey with destination to the National Park Pali Aike, once in the park, we will be greatly surprised with the lunar landscape of this place, due to its effusions of basaltic lava and volcanic cones.

One of the principal attractions of the park is the Pali Aike cave, place where has been found human remains of 10.000 years old, another attraction is the viewpoint of the volcanoes, which give us a view of the place that was once occupied by aborigines Aonikink or Tehuelches. The aborigines named this place as Tierra del Diablo (Devil’s land), due to the volcanic aspect of the place. The fauna of the park is also an attraction of the zone, where guanacos, foxes, rheas, are predominant.

After the journey, the return will be in the last hours of the afternoon, and we will arrive around 20:00 hrs.
