San Isidro Lighthouse. Last lighthouse of the American continent. Half-day trekking 75 km south of the city of Punta Arenas. Daily departures throughout the year

Located at the extreme south of ‘Península de Brunswick’, specifically 75kms to the south of Punta Arenas is the ‘Faro San Isidro’ (San Isidro Lighthouse) the last lighthouse of the American continent. In order to arrive at this place, you must do a trekking of 4kms with a duration of 4 hours round-trip.
The Faro San Isidro has a categorization of National Historical Monument and represent the years of the great maritime apogee of Punta Arenas as stopover in the commercial route of Liverpool-Valparaíso, this lighthouse also witnessed the growth of the whale industry, which had a base a few kilometers away.
This important lighthouse was guardian of navigators, inaugurated in 1904 and located in a strategic place to orient the navigation to Punta Arenas. Along with its principal labor, was also the south terminal station of the Telegraphic Territorial System.
In addition of visiting the lighthouse and its recently inaugurated Museum we will continue through ‘Bahía el Águila’ (Eagle Bay), place where was installed the whaling station belonging to the ‘Sociedad Ballenera de Magallanes’ (Magellan Whaling Society), in this place can be appreciated what’s left of the facility after the fire that destroyed it completely. To finish, will be returned towards the starting point of the trekking ‘Punta del Árbol’ (top of the tree) and then back to Punta Arenas.
